About Us

The Dorcas Society of Hollis and Buxton is a historic nonprofit organization rooted in community, philanthropy, and tradition. Founded in 1897 by author and educator Kate Douglas Wiggin, the Society has spent more than a century carrying forward her vision of compassion and service.
Our mission is simple yet enduring: to do good work in our community. Through scholarships and charitable donations, we proudly support local students and organizations, helping to strengthen the communities of Hollis and Buxton.
While our traditions have evolved over the years, our purpose remains unchanged. What once brought neighbors together through church suppers and lawn parties has grown into modern community events like our annual car show and concert—continuing to connect people while raising support for meaningful causes.
Today, the Dorcas Society remains a vibrant and dedicated group committed to honoring our history while making a lasting impact for future generations.
